Ryerson University is on a transformative path to become Canada’s leading comprehensive innovation university. It is a distinctly urban university, located in the heart of Toronto, with a focus on academic excellence, innovation and entrepreneurship. Ryerson has a mission to serve societal needs and a long-standing commitment to engage its diverse community.

Guided by a bold academic plan, more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs are offered. Programs span a wide range of disciplines and many are distinguished by experiential learning - a hallmark of Ryerson’s educational programs.

Distinctly urban, culturally diverse and inclusive, it is home to:

  • 40,000 students, including 2,400 master’s and PhD students;
  • Nearly 2,700 faculty and staff;
  • 165,000 alumni worldwide; and
  • 70,000 part-time students served through its continuing education program.

Total research funding doubled between 2008 and 2013, and in 2012-2013, Ryerson ranked fifth in sponsored research among Ontario non-medical/doctoral universities. In addition, Ryerson has established academic and research partnerships with over 132 institutions in 34 countries.

Ryerson’s reputation for innovation and entrepreneurship has been recognized around the world. It is Canada’s first educational institution to be named a Changemaker Campus by Ashoka, a global association of leading social entrepreneurs. Innovation is deeply rooted across a wide variety of disciplines and programs and the university is home to eight multidisciplinary zones – including the DMZ, the world’s #5 university-based incubator – where entrepreneurs, students and changemakers develop their ideas through education and ideation to incubation and acceleration.
